Builds, maintains and leads a world-class engineering team. The Director of Engineering has overall technical responsibility for the products developed, produced and supported of the Platform Support Systems (PSS) business unit. Leads technical engineering teams with responsibility for the full life cycle (development through fielded support) for Missile Systems and Transport equipment. This position offers hands-on, highly visible, and engaging opportunity working closely with project management, business development, production, quality, manufacturing engineering and advanced design organizations. Essential Duties:

  • Drives execution of the engineering team who develops, designs, analyzes, tests, and supports the manufacture and shipment of missile systems and transport products for the PSS business unit.
  • Responsible for the execution of the technical strategy, product cost reduction, process improvements and other initiatives to streamline and improve the business.
  • Effectively communicates metrics, program and initiative status to management.
  • Mentors and leads engineering staff including professional development, team building skills and conflict resolution.
  • Creates and reviews non-recurring engineering estimates for new opportunities independently, or through collaboration with appropriate team subject matter experts.
  • Defines, documents and executes best practices across engineering
  • Provides engineering management with performance status on associated products.
  • Recruits top talent for Missile Systems and Transport programs by working with the engineering managers to select, interview and onboard new hires from contract or direct routes of entry.
  • Works effectively with our internal customers such as human resources, IT, manufacturing engineering, operations, planning, supply chain, finance, quality and business development.
  • Mechanical assembly knowledge and experience with the integration of mechanical, hydraulic & electrical systems.
  • Provides managers and principal engineers on team guidance to achieve their goals.
  • Prepare, defend and drive the annual operating plan (AOP) budget for Engineering
  • Promotes a healthy culture by displaying commitment to safety, emotional resilience, positivity, helpfulness, respect, strong work ethic and support of company policies.
  • Participates in and oversees the performance review process for the team
  • Responsible for collaborating with other technical teams like sales, manufacturing, finance and other organizations to ensure effective use of resources and management of priorities
  • Approves time for contract and direct employees within the electronic system.

Education/Experience/Other Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school required; MS Engineering, PE License or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 plus years of experience including technical management experience required
  • Quality orientation and high attention to detail
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English
  • Ability to lead, coach and mentor others
  • Ability to summarize and/or graph data to guide technical and business decision making
  • SolidWorks, EPDM and SAP experience desired
  • Knowledge of military and industry specifications (MIL-SPEC, ASME, etc)
  • Communicates clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers
  • Possesses strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in standard business software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office)
