As a Law Student Intern at First Student, you will assist with defense against various employment-related matters, including but not limited to discrimination complaints, wage and hour complaints from local, state, and federal agencies, and sick leave law research.

  • Research statutes, regulations, Company policies, and labor contracts to evaluate causes of action and prepare a defense of the case accordingly.
  • Assist in preparation of company response to include position statement, correspondence, affidavits, and other evidentiary documents.
  • Review documents, interview witnesses, review Company policies/labor contracts, and conduct legal analysis based upon facts of cases necessary to prepare company defense/response.
  • Review charges of discrimination and wage & hour, assess company exposure to liability and make decisions on how a case should be handled. Assign outside counsel when appropriate.
  • Assist all units of the Company and corporate management on specific employment law-related issues.
  • Help maintain a record of all claims, dispositions, and settlements. Provides updated matrix and data information of all active complaints.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • Law School experience is heavily preferred, other similar work will be considered
  • General Microsoft/Office experience
  • Interpreting laws/regulations and applying them to specific fact situations in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to work in the office in downtown Cincinnati. Some remote work may be allowed.
