Supporting U.S. defense efforts

Since its creation in 2003, Airbus Group (formerly EADS) has been selected in key competitions for military aircraft and systems.

Airbus Group’s presence in the U.S. defense and homeland security sectors is growing as well. The company has supplied more than 90 HH-65 rotorcraft to the Coast Guard for its vital homeland security missions, and the Airbus Helicopters business in the U.S. supported performance upgrades for this entire fleet to the HH-65C configuration.

Airbus Group is prime contractor for the supply of up to 36 HC-144A Ocean Sentry aircraft for Coast Guard maritime patrol and support missions, and is supplying shipboard multimode acquisition radars for the U.S. Navy's Littoral Combat Ship and the Coast Guard's National Security Cutter.

The company also is a major contractor to the U.S. Army, having been chosen to supply the service’s UH-72A Lakota helicopter. The helicopter also was selected by the U.S. Navy as the rotary-wing aircraft for its Navy Test Pilot School, which received a total of five H-72A versions. As of May 2014, 300 aircraft had been delivered to the U.S. Defense Department for operation by Army and Army National Guard units, as well as the Navy – all of which were provided on time and on budget.

In commercial aviation, Airbus Group has a significant U.S. presence – with Airbus as a key supplier of commercial jetliners to airlines, leasing companies and VIP operators; and Airbus Helicopters as one of the U.S. leaders in civil helicopters. More than 3,090 Airbus aircraft have been ordered by North American customers, with over 2,150 delivered; while some 1,300 Airbus Helicopters rotary-wing aircraft are used by operators that include the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI.
